What is Thypoid Fever ?

Typhoid fever is an acute bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi. It is a life-threatening disease, and without treatment, it has a mortality rate as high as 20% to 50%.

The typhoid vaccine Malaysia is the most effective way to prevent typhoid fever. It is given as a single dose injection. Children are generally vaccinated at six months of age and adults are vaccinated at least every five years.

The vaccines can be obtained from Klinik Medi Intan Jalan Pudu, as well as during monthly outreach programmes. For local food handlers registered with DBKL ,MPSA and other authority , the typhoid jab will be given discount to RM 65.

When is typhoid vaccine needed?  People who get the typhoid shot will need 1 dose at least 2 weeks before travel, and a booster every 2 years. People who get the oral typhoid vaccine will need 4 doses every other day for a week, with the last dose taken at least 1 week before travel, and a booster every 2 to 3 years
